[Philadelphia, PA] – December 2025 – Morris Animal Refuge is thrilled to announce it has received a generous $50,000 grant from the Foxwynd Foundation. This funding will support the expansion of the Refuge’s Life Saver Fund and the Cat Kennel Modernization Project, a $100,000 initiative designed to enhance animal welfare and lifesaving capacity at the shelter.
The Life Saver Fund provides essential medical care and behavioral support to animals with urgent needs, many of whom come from under-resourced city shelters. Thanks to the Foxwynd Foundation’s support last year, the Fund was able to assist 178 animals with specialized care, including treatments for senior pets, diabetes management, parvo treatment, and even amputation surgeries.
Building on that success, this year’s grant will also fund a critical infrastructure upgrade: the replacement of aging cat kennels. The new units will be safer, easier to clean, and meet ASV standards for humane housing, ensuring that cats can recover in a healthy and low-stress environment while waiting for adoption.
“We are incredibly grateful for the Foxwynd Foundation’s continued support,” said Lewis Checchia, Executive Director at Morris Animal Refuge. “This grant will allow us to provide both essential medical care and a safer, more comfortable environment for our cats, giving all of our animals the best chance at a happy, healthy life and permanent homes.”

“Supporting organizations that provide compassionate care and second chances for animals is central to the Foxwynd Foundation’s mission. Morris Animal Refuge carries out this work with remarkable dedication, and we are proud to support their efforts,” said Pamela Villagra, Executive Director of the Foxwynd Foundation.
The Foxwynd Foundation supports organizations dedicated to meaningful community impact, and this grant highlights its ongoing commitment to advancing animal welfare initiatives. The donation, made through the Foxwynd Foundation DAF, provides critical support to Morris Animal Refuge, enabling the organization to continue delivering life-saving treatments, surgeries, behavioral interventions, and safe housing for animals in need, and helping them find loving, permanent homes.
