Senior cats often get overlooked in shelters, as many adopters seek younger, more energetic companions. But those who open their hearts to an older cat quickly learn just how rewarding it can be. Senior cats like Sarge have years of love to give—they just need someone willing to see past their age and offer them the comfort and care they deserve. Sarge, our beloved 15-year-old gentleman, was one of those special seniors in need of a second chance. When he arrived at Morris Animal Refuge, he had a host of medical issues and needed a calm, loving environment to heal.

His fosters stepped up to give him that space, offering him patience, comfort, and all the gentle affection he needed. And in return, Sarge worked his way into their hearts. From soaking up the sun in his cozy little sweater to slowly rebuilding his strength with daily laps around the house, this sleepy sweetheart showed just how much love he still had to give. After a wonderful weekend together, his fosters knew they couldn’t say goodbye. They officially made Sarge a part of their family, giving him the retirement he deserves—one filled with warmth, care, and the company of his new feline siblings.

Sarge’s golden years will be spent surrounded by love, and we couldn’t be happier for him. If you’ve ever considered adopting, we encourage you to think about giving a senior pet a chance. They may have a few extra years under their belt, but they have just as much love to give—and they’re so grateful for a home to call their own.
