We’re thrilled to share that KYW Newsradio recently featured our exciting partnership with Get a Gato, a nonprofit cat café in Queen Village! This collaboration is helping more of Philly’s homeless cats find their fur-ever homes, and we’re so grateful for the spotlight on this life-changing initiative.

At Get a Gato, located at South Seventh and Christian streets, visitors can enjoy Colombian-inspired beverages and snacks while spending time in a cozy lounge with up to 12 adoptable cats. The best part? You might just meet your purr-fect match in a relaxed, cage-free environment designed to let the cats’ personalities shine. All adoption applications are processed and approved by Morris Animal Refuge.

As our Executive Director, Lewis Checchia, shared in the feature, “This partnership exposes more animals to the City of Philadelphia, and that’s what we really need because there are a ton of homeless cats out there.”

Jackie Starker, the Executive Director of Get a Gato, also explained their thoughtful approach to making every visit enjoyable. Cats wear color-coded collars to indicate their comfort levels with human interaction, ensuring everyone has a positive experience.

This initiative has already brought adoption joy to many, including Courtney from Center City, who found her fur-ever friend Stewie at the café. “In this environment, you actually get to meet the cats in a way that they are not just in cages. It’s a lot more conducive to getting to know the cat’s personality and bonding with them,” she shared.

We’re so thankful to KYW Newsradio for helping us spread the word about this unique and impactful partnership. Every bit of support brings us closer to our mission of finding homes for all our adoptable animals.
