PetSmart Animal Transport *VOLUNTEER*

SUMMARY: Are you an animal lover looking for a rewarding volunteer opportunity? We need help transporting cats from our shelter (1242 Lombard Street) to the South Philadelphia PetSmart Adoption Center (2360 W Oregon Ave.). Our volunteer transporters are responsible for taking cats to PetSmart, setting up their kennels, and keeping track of their paperwork. Taking cats to PetSmart ultimately helps them meet their forever families. This position works closely with Morris staff and volunteers to make sure the cats arrive at PetSmart safely and are set up for success. They support the overall adoptions program and Morris Animal Refuge’s mission to ensure adoption, education, and high quality care with the goal of finding positive and humane outcomes for animals in need.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES:

  • Transport cats and supplies to PetSmart (2360 W Oregon Avenue) by using either the Morris Animal Refuge Van or a personal vehicle
  • Ensure supplies needed for adoptions are stocked and neatly stored
  • Set up cats at the PetSmart Adoption Center with food, water, linens, and litter
  • Fill out kennel cards with individual cats’ information
  • Keep track of provided paperwork for each cat
  • Report any and all illness/injury to the cats, volunteers, or customers in a timely manner
  • Treat all animals (including humans!) with kindness, compassion, and empathy at all times

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Must be over the age of 25
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19
  • We will provide all necessary training, so previous experience working with animals is helpful, but not required 
  • Must be able to work with both animals and members of the public 
  • Some parts of this role may require bending, kneeling, and lifting bags of food and litter (up to 20 lbs)

  • Enthusiastic about saving animals
  • Able to solve problems creatively and follow directions
  • Good written and verbal communication skills
  • Positive attitude and ability to work in a team
