We recently got a heartwarming update from one of our past adopters, who took a chance on a senior pet seven years ago. This is what they had to say:
“Seven years ago, in July of 2016, we adopted Lottie, a terrier, then age 11 and known at Morris as Princess. We changed her name to Lottie in honor of our friend Charlotte who had urged us to go online and look at the four-legged residents at Morris. When we saw the photo of the senior Princess, we could not resist. For six years, Lottie lived in our Center City house with a backyard, a deck to relax on, and dog beds and blankets for her on every floor.
Last summer, we moved from Philadelphia to New York City. We were nervous about how Lottie would adjust to the change, but she has been amazing. She rides the elevators, strolls through Riverside Park, and most wonderful of all, adores our grandson, who was only 10 days old when we moved to NYC. Lottie was initially perplexed, but patient with him. Now she wags her tail as soon as she sees him. She watches over him when he naps. When he began to crawl, they chased after one another. Now he is a toddler and they follow each other everywhere. Lottie is noticeably aging (she turned 18 in March) but we think our grandson is keeping her enthused about life.” – Nancy Tiger
We are overjoyed to see that Lottie is still going strong at 18 years old! What an accomplishment! Senior pets are often overlooked for their age and health problems, but we never give up on them – and this is why. Nancy and her family took a chance on Lottie, and they’ve given her a beautiful life outside the shelter. From Philly to NYC, Lottie has been living every moment very loved, and now she’s got a best friend to watch over!
This is your sign to take the leap and give a home to a senior pet. With your love, care, and kindness, their lives can be extended by any number of years, and they could live to be as old (or even older) as Lottie! Their presence in your lives could benefit more than just you, too, and the impact they leave on you, as well as the memories they’ll leave you with, can be beautiful.
We love you, Lottie, and we’re so happy you’re living your best life! Thank you, Nancy and family, for giving us permission to share Lottie’s story and for reminding us why our work at Morris is so special to us.
