Senior girl Angela’s odds didn’t seem good. She was elderly, matted, and ill with her eyes crusted shut when she was brought to Vieques Humane Societyin Puerto Rico. Her owner had passed away, and she didn’t have a home to go to.
Luckily, Angela already had a few allies on the mainland who she didn’t even know yet.
At Morris Animal Refuge, our shelter manager was hard at work securing a transport for in-need at-risk dogs from Puerto Rico to Philadelphia. We knew that we would have support from the community to help these pups from PR. We knew that Angela needed to be transported to a higher resource area. So, a date was set and the transport was scheduled.
When Angela arrived in the United States, her condition was assessed firsthand. While she had lost an eye due to a deep corneal ulcer that could not be healed, she had much of her eyesight restored thanks to a surgery provided by a grant from The Grey Muzzle Foundation. Our staff was delighted to discover that shewas also sweet, affectionate, and loved walks and cuddles.
We could not wait for this sweet girl to find her forever home!
Our staff worked tirelessly to find Angela the home she deserved. Within a week, she was out of the kennel and into a foster home. And within a month, that foster turned into an adopter, and Angela found her people.
