 MORRIS ANIMAL REFUGE,
AMERICA’S OLDEST SHELTER,

HOSTS 19TH ANNUAL FUR BALL

Philadelphia, PA – March 10th, 2016 – The Morris Animal Refuge, America’s first animal shelter as well as title sponsor, C&R Building Supply, are pleased to announce the 19th Annual Fur Ball will be held on Saturday, March 19th, from 8pm – midnight. The yearly celebration is the refuge’s single largest fundraiser and goes to helping the homeless, abandoned and unwanted pets of the Philadelphia region. This year’s theme, 50’s Prom, encourages guests to grab their beau, don a corsage and boogie-woogie the night away at Old Pine Community Center (401 Lombard Street, Philadelphia, PA 19147).

The event will also recognize outstanding members of the Morris Animal Refuge community. The Honorable Brian K. Sims, PA House of Representatives, will receive the 2016 Elizabeth Morris Award and Dr. Ravi Murarka DVM, MVSC, of Compassion Veterinary Clinic, will be receive this year’s Grace Labouchere Award for Corporate Humane Awareness. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet Bella & Lilly, this year’s “Prom Court.”

“We look forward to the Fur Ball year after year because it’s like no other event in the city,” said Lewis Checchia, executive director of Morris. “Animal lovers of all kinds get together to celebrate our four-legged friends in our biggest fundraiser. This year it’ll be while dancing to Doo Wop – what could be better?”

Between dinner and dancing, prom photos, Doo Wop and the Hand Jive guests are invited to purchase a corsage ($10) from Glenside’s Penny’s Flowers with 100% of proceeds going to Morris. The silent auction will feature gift certificates from Philadelphia’s top area restaurants, Philadelphia Eagles Club Seats and gift baskets from Philly Unleashed and Just for Dogs and Cats. Attendees will also be able to adopt dogs and cats virtually throughout the evening all whilst enjoying “spiked punch” courtesy of Bluecoat American Dry Gin and beer from Barren Hill Tavern & Brewery and Philadelphia Brewing Company.

Proceeds from the fundraiser will help support the nation’s first animal shelter with vital programs including the Lifesaver Fund, the Fostering Program, the Adoption Program, and the Low Cost Spay & Neuter Program.

The Morris Animal Refuge’s 19th Annual Fur Ball will take place on Saturday, March 19th, from 8pm to 12pm at the Old Pine Community Center. Tickets cost $130 per person, and are available online.
